Neil Pep Dave N. Sumaya graduated as Summa Cum Laude in the International Master of Science in Agro- and Environmental Nematology (IMaNema) in Ghent University in Belgium.

Neil Pep Dave N. Sumaya graduated as Summa Cum Laude in his International Master of Science in Agro- and Environmental Nematology (IMaNema) in Ghent University in Belgium. He is a scholar of the  VLIR-UOS Scholarship.

He got the highest general weighted average among the 18 students from the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Cameroon, Rwanda, Ghana, Morocco and Zimbabwe. He also received the Best Student Award during their commencement exercises held on September 11, 2021. His two years of stay in the European Universities centered on molecular plant-nematode interactions geared toward the design of environmental-friendly control strategies to target harmful pathogens. He spent his first year of course work in Ghent University, Belgium while he conducted his research work in Bonn, Germany.

Prior to Sumaya’s new achievement, the young agriculturist made history in November 2017 Licensure Examination for Agriculturists (LEA) after earning the highest passing rate of 87.83% in the country among the 2,883 out of 7,537 who passed the exam and hailed Top 1—the first-ever of the University of Southern Mindanao since the start of LEA in 2002.

He is a faculty of the Department of Crop Protection, College of Agriculture, University of Southern Mindanao since 2018. He took his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree major in Plant Pathology as Magna Cum Laude and the Class Salutatorian. He is teaching basic and major courses in Plant Pathology and other related agriculture courses.

Before entering the academe, Mr. Sumaya served the Dole Philippines Inc., Polomolok, South Cotabato as Agricultural Research Supervisor/Management Trainee for more than two years.
